Hamilton: an American Musical was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda based on Alexander Hamiltion by Ron Chernow, a biography about the life of Hamilton that Miranda read while on a vacation. It tells the story of Alexander Hamiltion’s life and his role in the founding of America, and the many family issues that affected him. It is a musical with a lot of rapping, R&B, pop, and Soul music, it has diversity in its casting of the Founding Fathers with non-white actors protarying white founder; which in my personal opinion makes it a slightly better story by allowing it to discuss issues of race relations in a way that couldn’t be done as good if it was done by white actors.
Personally I would recommend that if you ever get a chance to watch it you should because it has a lot of information that is presented in an interesting way, while it's not the most accurate historically i would still watch it for a fun family movie night. It has an accuracy rating of Accurate with 74% of its ratings being that, here our the other ratings Inaccurate 24%, Embellished 2%, Hear Say 1%. The links to this information are posted on our website under the tab for The True Story: Historical Reviews of Pop Culture, as an article called Hamilton Review.
A synopsis of Hamilton provided by gradesaver.com is: Hamilton is an acclaimed musical that follows the life and exploits of an oft-overlooked Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton. Using innovative musical and theatrical methods, the musical takes the audience through the biography of the impassioned politician and invites the audience to contemplate the dramatic and momentous founding of the United States of America.
Act 1:
The first song/scene is called “Alexander Hamilton'' which shows the early stages of his life, it starts of with a description of his parental situation which is accurate as he was born out of wedlock ( Bastard), his father abandoned him and his mom caught yellow fever leading to her death (Orphan) , his mom was sleeping around at the time of his birth (son of a Whore), and his father was of scotish descent (and a Scotsman). He was born in Charlestown, Nevis, a British colony in the middle of the Caribbean that wasn’t that memorable then or now, other than as a place to go for a quick vacation while staying in the British Commonwealth ( Dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean). When he was 14 he was put in charge of a trading company, but only for 5 months while the owner was out on the sea ( By 14, they placed him in charge of a trading charter). He did write a letter about the impact of the hurricane to his father which was later published by a local minister and journalist, which was good enough that the locals raised money to send him to the mainland to get him a proper education ( put a pencil to his templa connected to his brain, and he wrote his first refrain a testament to his pain to and the worlds gonna know your name.) At the age of ten his father did abandoned but because of being in debt it was because he was still legally married to another women witch was a crime ,him causing him to have to work as a clerk at a local import export business, it was around 2-3 years latter when his mother died of the Yellow Fever, as previously mentioned, causing him to bounce around family to stay with, as a cousin that was watching him took his own life ( when he was ten his father split full of it debt ridden, to, left him with nothing but ruined pride something new inside).
The next song is called Aaron Burr, Sir, he didn't go to Princeton for his education he went to what was then known as King’s College what is now Columbia ( sir, i heard your name at princeton, to, you punched the bursar). Aaron Burr didn’t complete his studies in two years he just had a change in mind so he stopped his religious education and moved to Connecticut to start his legal education, but stopped that once he heard about the start of the American Revolution, he did get a degree in the arts over the course of 3 years when he was 16, it was a common criticism when Burr was around that he stood for nothing as he would not state his political opinion ( fools who run their mouths off wind up dead). Alexander didnt met John Luarnes, Marquis de Layffete, and Hercules Mulligan at the same time; Hamilton met Lafayette when they were both put on George Washintons staff around the same time, he meet John Laurnes the same way a year latter in 1776 as Laurnes was a solider, he meet Hercule Mulligan [what a cool name] when he arrived from the west indies spending time at his house during his first year at Kings College; Hamilton didn’t know Aaron Burr intil the early stages of the Revoultion: Hamilton had already went to King’s College by the time he meet most of his friends; Laurens was anti slavery and trying to get an all black unit; the group of friends were aganist slavery with them trying to get every free from the bonds of masters [ like england and slave masters] but it was unseccussful as the constutunal convention had representatives from the southern slave states. Hamilton had been writing pamphlets with his opinions on British North America { Canada/Quebec} and British Rule over the 13 colonies. (my shot and Aaron Burr Sir)
The declaration of Independence might have been out around the time of the song Schuyler sisters depending on what time it was set, they are missing one of the sisters as their where 4 sisters and 3 brothers;( schuyler sister) the british were against the acts of the congress and supports of the revolution would actively annoy the british representatives, the king and other advisers would probably have believed every thing that the King said, they did make arrangements to serve the king when people went away to the new world from England, the king did send people to try to keep America in its possession, the high class of england did believe that the Americans would come back, King George was slightly insane do to a high amount of inbreeding within royal families at the time. ( a message from your King).
During the battle of Long Island there were around 32,000 total troops with 10,000 American 22,000 British, British were under the command of Admiral William Howe, and the Americans under General George Washinton, 364 people died 1,093 injured, and 1,110 missing or captured. Hamilton was appointed to the position of Aide-de-Camp around the time of the Battle of Long Island, Aaron Burr was a soldier under General Montgomery in the unsuccessful battle to try to take Quebec City from the British troops, Hamilton did turn down jobs as an administrator with William Alexander, Lord Stirling, Nathanael Greene, and Alexander Mcdougal ( right Hand MAn).
It is true Hamilton was a ladies man, possibly even having a kid with a women other than his wife, it was long rumored that this kid was a leading antislavery activist William Hamilton, the part about the tom cat is highly unlikely as the word tomcat wasn’t used to refer to a lady until the early 20th century, it was only Eliza at the winters ball the other sisters were off elsewhere, the letter about sharing Hamilton was written in 1794 14 years after the winters ball and when Hamilton and Eliza got married, ( helpless). Angelica wasn’t at the winter ball, she was already born by the time Hamilton met Eliza and got married, her father had three sins that survived into adulthood, ( satisfied). I can't be one hundred percent sure but I can’t find any law that would make the relationship between Burr and Theodossia illegal on the context of her husband being a British officer as George Washiton used her house as base of operations, meaning it would be on the count that it was a crime to date cheat on your spouse, ( the story of tonight [repraise]). Theodossias husband was stationed in St. Augustine, Florida but was moved to Georgia to continue the southern campaign, in 1781 he was sent to Jamaica to suppress an uprising when he died fighting; his grandpa was a preacher and the successor to Burr’s father as president of Princeton University; ( wait for it).
While i cant find proof it is very likely that they ate their horses do to how food supply; the merchants wouldn’t supply the Americans with resources because if the war ended with the British winning it could result in their deaths for charges of treason; Mulligan did sevre as a spy; Laurens and Hamilton did work against slavery, including creating a force of 3,000 slaves who would be set free after their service; Washington did put promote Lee to a senior command and he did fail in the battle of Mamouth; Layfafffet was sent as a commander of a vanguard to assist in the battle not to replace Lee; Lee forgot to inform his seconds in command about his plans to fight the British by surrounding them but once Layfafettes forces realized that had no chance to beat the British and pulled away Lee’s plans could no longer work, leading to mess of confusion and disorder leading to over a thousand deaths; Lee and Laurens did duel, following Lee making a speech that questioned Washinton; Aaron Burr was not Lee’s second that was Evan Edwards; Lee was not inexperienced as he was a former commander in the 7 years war(Ten Duel Commandments).
Hamilton did get in trouble by Washiton, leading to Hamilton leaving his staff; ( meet me inside). No issues our in ( that would be enough). Just a minor not Lafayette was not his real name it was his title the Marquis de Lafayette; Hamilton got his first command by implying that he might resign from the military, there are no mentions of anything having to do with Lafayette; Washington was twenty when he got his first command, hamilton was 24, ( history has its eyes on you).
Lafayette was at the battle of yorktown with Hamilton along with Hercules Mulligan, such a cool name, who was spying on the British, apparently not the best at running counterintelligence operations; the british probably did think the world had turn upside down as they just lost to a minor force compared to theirs (yorktown). Britain was basically always at war with France; It took two tries but America did succeed with ruling the country effectively; ( what comes next). Burr’s daughter Theodossia did live into adulthood being married to the Governor of South Carolina during the War of 1812, she got lost at sea, [ as for Hamilton’s son he is a character in this show]. ( dear Theodossia). John Laurnes died at the end of the war when he was escorting some British Soldiers out, Hamilton was very close to him leading to him never getting close to another man like that again.( tomorrow there will be more of us). Both Hamilton and Burr were lawyer, Hamilton was also a member of the Constitutional Congress; he did write a lot, just search but a list of writings by Hamilton; no comment on the Corruption in Albany then or now; Hamilton was at the Constitutional Convention; Hamilton never asked Burr to write a essay for the Federalist Papers; Angelica married her husband years before she left for London in 1777; Hamilton did write the most essays, almost like he was really committed to fixing America; Washington did Appoint Hamilton to be the Secretary of the Treasury; ( Non-Stop)
Act 2:
Thomas Jefferson was stationed in France during the early years of America and was quite the ladies man; Jefferson was one of the crafter of the French constitution, Inspired by America’s; the government was based in New York at the time; Hamilton’s plan was quite ambitious including plans to create a national bank, had to wait till later for that; he did plan on assuming state debts; the south was quite rich at the time, but slavery does that for you; Jefferson was not a solider, as mentioned, he was however involved in governing Virginia during the war; the war was already over by the time Jefferson was in France; just a minor note cabinet meetings our not rape battles, but that would be a more fun way; Hamilton already had 2 more sons; Angelic did visit that year but it was more to be at Washitons Inaguration; this is about the story that we were told about the reynolds affair; (can’t say no).
Hamilton got his debt play through, Virginia hadd the capital; as oftens happens it just smoky back rooms; (room where it happens). Philip Schuyler did lose his seat to Aaron Burr; France was basically at war at all times; At this time France was in the midst of revolution; Layfafette was a leader of the revolution, despite being part of the upper class; the Democratic Republicans were made up by factions supporting Hamilton; Hamilton was already out of his position as Secretary of the Treasury; Hamilton did write the farewell address; Washington stepped down as to show that the position was democratic unlike the king, it established a precedent only book once by FDR, and Teddy R tried to, leading to the election of Wilson; ( one last time) King George 3 was still king at the time, he lived long as a crazy person; John Adams was the second president; Hamilton created both the Coast Guard, as the Revenue Cutter Service, and the New york post, as told in our business fact from the tenth of september 2020; adams didn’t fire Hamilton, as he was out of the job for about a year by then; ( adams). It was not these three men involved in the exposure of the affair; this was basically the events of the exposure; ( we know). Hamilton did hve the biggest influence on America’s finical system; he was either 12 or 13 when his Mom died, it depends on the source; Angelica’s arrivle in America was before the Reynolds pamphlet: it should be noted that while it has the nickname of Reynolds pamphlet, the real name was Observations on Certian Documents; this probably was the death of his political career at lest for important opinions; ( the reynold pamphlet). We don’t know what Eliza’s reaction to the scandal was as none of her works have survived; it is not necsarrly true that she burned the letters, as none of them survived; ( Burn). Hamilton did gradute from King’s College; Philip did duel with Eacker over his Fathers Honor; Dueling was not legal in Jersey, just no one would ever be found guilty, but no one was found guilty in any place; Eacker did not shoot right away, it took them over 1 minute to start shooting; Philip did die due to the Duel, as a Public Service Announcment dueling is illegal and not something i would recommend; ( Blow us all away).
Hamilton did became more actively religious following Phillip death; Alexander and Eliza did reconect following Phillips death; ( it’s quiet uptown). Burr did run for office in 1800, along with Jefferson; Hamilton decided to endorse Jefferson: the election happened a year before Philip died; Burr did become Vice President, as was the rules at the time; the was over events in connection to the 1804 Gubentorial election in New York; Hamilton was wearing his glasses at the time; Burr’s killing of Hamilton basically ruined any chance of success in life, years latter he would be investigated for treason; Eliza did do all of this work, all of the main work was done by the founding mothers; Eliza died only 6 years before the civil war, and 9 before slavery was gotten ride of; the orphanage still exists to this day; ( Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story).
